If you were like me as a kid, you loved building all types of things with legos. Well the Dutch have taken it to a whole new level. The first 3d-printed house is currently underway. The canal houses that have made Amsterdam so iconic are undergoing an update. The Kamermaker 3d-printer, or room-builder is being used to make giant pieces of a house that can be then pieced together much like legos. Each of these polypropylene pieces takes about a day to make.
It was already predicted in a Ted Talk that there would be 3d-printed houses made in under 20 hours. We aren’t quite there, but this is a massive step in that direction. The house is open for exhibition while it is under construction. The hope is that the pieces can be printed on site while using the minimal amount of resources necessary, eventually out of recycled plastic.
